Replatforming without rebuilding
How Evangel University rebranded and replatformed, but didn’t have to rebuild their site from scratch
Evangel is a university with a nimble marketing team of less than ten people. They had recently outsourced their new branding, and needed to apply the new brand across their website, without a rebuild, and transition to a new page builder.

Making the plan
When the rebrand was announced, we began discussions around their website’s page builder. When we onboarded with Evangel, we absorbed an existing WordPress site that used WP Bakery as the page builder. Given that the WP Block Editor is native to WordPress, we knew we wanted to transition them away from WP Bakery.
Given the rebrand was happening, this was a good time to take stock of everything and make a gameplan that balanced:
“Chris and his team are extremely communicative and responsive, offering step-by-step instructions and creative solutions for our web projects.”
Executing the plan
Color swapping
The color palette was transitioning from a handful of flat colors to gradients (which, of course, were different colors). We went through each color in the original palette and determined which gradient it would be swapped to.
Single Element Redesigns
When we built out the entire Codex, we determined the list of blocks that were used most often across their key pages. We did a light-weight design refresh on each block to ensure there was minimal custom code for this initial launch.
Key Page Rebuilds
There wasn’t the time to go through the 1,000+ pages to ensure 100% adherence to the brand. We focused on templates and pages in the primary journey that a potential student goes through.
